PDP Expels Former Governors and Dissolves State Executives
The Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) has taken significant steps to address internal dissent by expelling former governors of Rivers, Ekiti, and other states, along with several other prominent members. This move comes as part of a broader effort to restore discipline and unity within the party.
Among those expelled are Nyesom Wike, the former governor of Rivers State, Ayo Fayose, the former governor of Ekiti State, and nine others. The expelled individuals include Hon. Abraham Amah, Hon. Umar Bature, Adeyemi Ajibade SAN, Senator Mao Ohabinwa, Senator Samuel Anyawu, George Turner, Chief Dan Orbih, Muhammed Abdulrahman, and Hon Sistine Nwachukwu. These actions were approved during the PDP’s national convention held in Ibadan, Oyo State.
Expulsion and Dissolution Orders
The expulsion and dissolution of the executive councils of Rivers, Abia, Imo, Enugu, and Plateau States were carried out in accordance with Section 33 subsection 2 of the 2017 Constitution of the PDP. Chief Olabode George, a chieftain from Lagos State, moved the motion for the expulsion of Wike and others. Meanwhile, Oyo State Governor Seyi Makinde proposed the dissolution of the five state executive councils.
George emphasized that the party’s constitution mandates strict adherence to its principles and aspirations. He highlighted that the expelled individuals had engaged in various violations, including supporting opposition candidates, conducting illegal congresses, and initiating legal actions against the party. One such case involved a lawsuit filed by Wike and others, which sought to prevent the 2025 National Elective Convention.
Samuel Anyanwu, Hon. Umar Bature, and Kamaldeen Adeyemi Ajibade were noted for their support of Wike, which contributed to the disruption of the party’s activities. George stated that the party had lost public respect due to these actions, which contravened the party’s constitution.
The motion was seconded by Pharmacist Samaila Adamu Burga, marking a formal decision by the party to take action against those who had violated its rules.
