Top 10 Aussie beaches revealed

But new research from Tourism Australia has named a beach in Tasmania as Australia’s best for 2025.

The top honour for Australia’s best beach has been given to a 10km stretch of coastline in Tasmania’s Bay of Fires Conservation Reserve.

Normally there’s only one winner, but in 2025, a group of nearby beaches shared the top honour.

Tourism Australia’s official ‘Beach Ambassador’ Brad Farmer said for the first time a Tasmanian beach has taken out the award.

“I spent heaps of time in Tassie checking out the beaches and in the end, there were heaps of amazing options, so I couldn’t even narrow it down to just one, which is why, for the first time, I’m giving the best beach title to a group of beaches together in the Bay of Fires,” Mr Farmer said.

The beaches at Bay of Fires attracted over 12,000 competitors.

Temperatures in the bay have been quite cool, ranging from around 14 degrees Celsius to 17 degrees Celsius.

“They reckon the chillier water’s good for you, but even if a swim’s not on the cards, there’s heaps to do and see along this 10 kilometre stretch of coast. It’s a spot made for photography or painting, fishing and surfing,” Mr Farmer said.

According to Mr Farmer, the Bay of Fires is Australia’s top beach thanks to a stretch of coastline with clear blue waters, pristine white sand and striking rock formations.

Coming in second was Woolgoogla, situated near Coffs Harbour, while Emily Bay Lagoon on Norfolk Island took out third spot for Australia’s top beach.

Trade and Tourism Minister Don Farrell stated there’s no question Australia boasts the world’s top beaches.

“This year’s list highlights to the world what Aussies have known all along – that Bondi and Brighton are fantastic, but it’s worth the trip to discover some truly one-off beaches in rural Australia,” he said.

There’ll be heaps of families, just like mine, that love going through the ‘Best Aussie Beaches’ list every year to pick which ones they want to head to next.

“On occasion, the picks spark a fair bit of discussion, which I’m more than happy to engage with, and I’m eager to hear the views on this year’s top 10,” he said
