Strictly’s Amber Davies addresses Lewis Cope’s exit

Amber Davies has broken her silence following Lewis Cope’s Strictly Come Dancing exit and the backlash she has received for her perfect scores.

The ex-Love Island star replaced Dani Dyer at the last minute on the BBC series after Dani was forced to leave the show early due to an injury.

Since then, the 29-year-old has faced criticism for her previous West End dance experience, which fans have claimed has given her an ‘unfair advantage’.

This has intensified following a ‘terrifying’ dance off against the Emmerdale star during the quarter finals that ended in Lewis and his professional partner Katya Jones being eliminated.

After the result aired, Amber took to Instagram to say the dance-off ‘broke her heart.’

Sharing several pictures from the show, she wrote: ‘I will always be your number 1 fan @lewiscope To go up against one of the greatest dancers Strictly has ever seen was simply terrifying, however I was actually dancing against my best friend in this competition, and that broke my heart.

‘Lewis & @katyajones you won this competition as soon as you showed us & the world your couples choice on Halloween week. It was pure perfection just like your partnership.

‘Thank you for being mine and @nikita__kuzmin’s champions from day one, that means more to us than anything else. You’re both simply the greatest of all time & I love you both immensely.’

She also hit back at viewers who are accusing her of ‘essentially doing her day job’ following a streak of 40 out of 40 scores.

Responding to a clip of her Charleston to Sit Down, You’re Rockin’ The Boat from Guys and Dolls, Amber commented on Instagram: ‘Guys, please.. it’s really is just a television show. I wasn’t even supposed to be in the comp.

‘You have no idea what we put our mind and body through for this experience.. I’m really just trying my best with the opportunity that came to me. To anyone who has left a NICE comment thank you. Xx.’

Writing beneath the former Love Islander’s comment, several fans rushed to her defence.

Please try not to let the nastiness get you down, you deserve to be in the show just as much as anyone else! You are wonderful❤️❤️’

@bttfmusicalfanpage added: ‘@amb_d you are incredible don’t let the haters get you down ❤️’

@leicester_teacher also wrote: ‘I am soooo bored, every year of “she/he is a trained dancer” comments. Nowhere has it ever been said that Strictly is for non dancers.

‘It is a show for celebrities to learn to dance ballroom and Latin… As long as they have not competed or danced professionally in the ballroom/latin stage then they are entitled to their place.

‘If you don’t enjoy watching great performances don’t watch, it’s not difficult.’

Meanwhile, @paradiseieah also wrote on X: ‘Amber having to post this on her Instagram due to some of the vile comments that she has been receiving really says it all.

‘It’s an entertainment show at the end of the day and some of youse need to take a step back and think about what you’re saying. #Strictly.’

Amber first came to fame in Love Island in 2017, when she won the third series of the show with Kem Cetinay.

But in terms of her showbiz careers, she starred as Judy Bernly in 9 to 5: The Musical in 2019 before being cast in Bring It On: The Musical and Back to the Future: The Musical in 2021 and 2022.

Following another role in Pretty Woman in 2023, she is currently playing Jordan Baker in the West End and European premiere of The Great Gatsby.

Next, she has been cast as Elle Woods in the 2026 UK tour of Legally Blonde.

As well as this, she has appeared on Dancing on Ice, competing in season 16 of the show in 2024.

Strictly is now only a couple of weeks away from the final on December 20, as the five remaining couples took to the ballroom floor for the quarter-final.

Elsewhere in the show, the remaining contestants – EastEnders actress Balvinder Sopal and Australian dancer Julian Caillon, internet star George Clarke and US partner Alexis Warr and soap star Lewis Cope and professional dancer Katya Jones – were all tied on 35 points.

Balvinder notably became emotional after she received her highest score in Strictly to date.

This came after she and Julian became the first couple in the show’s history to survive five dance-offs.
