The Prime Minister, Anthony Albanese, has publicly commented on the recent heated argument between the Ukrainian President, Volodymyr Zelenskyy, and the US President, Donald Trump, reaffirming Australia’s strong backing for Ukraine.
Speaking to the media on Saturday morning, Mr Albanese stressed that Australia remains in solidarity with Ukraine, despite not commenting directly on the comments made by Trump and Vice President JD Vance.
“We’re standing in solidarity with Ukraine,” Mr Albanese said.
This year we’ve witnessed a land war in Europe drag on for three years. The Ukrainian people are fighting not just for their country’s independence, they’re fighting for the global principles of law to be upheld.
We’ll keep backing Ukraine as long as it takes, because this is about a democratic country fighting off an autocratic government led by Vladimir Putin, who’s got expansionist ambitions that go beyond Ukraine and into the wider region.
“Fair dinkum, we’re keen to see peace in Ukraine and that’s what the Ukrainian people want as well.”
