Dhaka, June 11 — Professor Muhammad Sahid Ullah from the Department of Communication and Journalism at Chittagong University has been selected as one of the recipients of the 2025 FAO/IAMCR Rural Communication Services Award.

The esteemed accolade, which was co-announced by the International Association for Media and Communication Research (IAMCR) along with the Food and Agriculture Organization of the United Nations (FAO), honors exceptional studies that enhance knowledge about Rural Communication Services (RCS). This includes fields like agriculture, family farming, climate change resilience, ensuring food safety, and reducing risks associated with disasters.

Professor Sahid’s research closely analyzes Bangladesh’s Union Digital Centers (UDCs) and points out that despite being intended to close the digital gap in remote regions, these centers are frequently controlled by influential local figures, which ends up marginalizing disadvantaged communities, according to a press statement.

The prize-winning research papers will be showcased at a dedicated session during the IAMCR 2025 conference in Singapore and compiled into a collaborative publication with FAO/IAMCR. This effort aims to enrich international dialogues about rural communications and sustainable development.

Prof Sahid Ullah has authored more than 60 scholarly papers and is well-known for his deep understanding of journalism and communication studies.
