Corporate Affairs Commission (CAC) Registration
Begin by registering at the Corporate Affairs Commission. This is your business’s legal identity. CAC registration is the foundation, whether as a business name, limited liability company, or incorporated trustee. Adebukola Adeogun, a Lagos entrepreneur, noted that any entrepreneur needs a CAC certificate for legal recognition of their business. Tax Identification Number (TIN) and Federal Inland Revenue Service (FIRS) Registration

Business Premises Permit (Operational Licence)
Every business must obtain a business premises permit from the local government where it operates. In Lagos, this is an annual licence issued by the State Ministry of Commerce through LGAs. The cost of one depends on the location and size of the premises. Adeogun explained, “This business licence is obtainable from the Lagos State government… If I’m on the mainland, I receive it from the Lagos Mainland Local Government; if I’m on the island, it’s from the Lagos Island Local Government.” Failure to secure this licence exposes shops to raids, padlocking, or demolition.
Environmental Health Permit
The Environmental Health Department of a state issues this permit. It ensures your business complies with hygiene and waste management standards.
