Sports calendar of the year 2026: England eye World Cup glory and Team GB seek Winter Olympic medals

As the New Year begins, sports fans can look forward to a packed sporting calendar in 2026.

The expanded FIFA World Cup will be one of the marquee events of the year as Thomas Tuchel bids to fulfill his pledge to try to put another star on England’s shirt.

Team GB will be eyeing Winter Olympic success in Milan and Cortina in February, with the early months of the year also seeing snooker’s Masters, the Six Nations and the Australian Open beginning the Grand Slam tennis season.

England’s cricket teams have a packed schedule, which includes T20 World Cups for men and women, while the Rugby League World Cups will take place in October and November.

The summer will also see the Commonwealth Games return to Glasgow.
