A Strong Start to the Re-election Campaign

Ekiti State Governor, Mr. Biodun Oyebanji, has launched a robust re-election campaign that signals his intent to retain the governorship seat he currently holds. With the June 20 governorship election in the Land of Honour fast approaching, Oyebanji has taken a proactive approach by engaging directly with the people of Ekiti. His campaign began with a massive rally on April 27, which marked the official start of his re-election efforts.

The governor, who is the flag bearer of the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC), has been actively visiting the grassroots, ensuring that his message reaches every corner of the state. Between May 4 and May 13, Oyebanji and his campaign team traveled across the 16 local government areas of Ekiti. During these visits, he expressed gratitude for the trust placed in him in 2022, outlined the achievements of his administration, and shared his vision for a second term.

The initial phase of the campaign was met with overwhelming support. The rallies were well-organized, drawing large crowds and maintaining a peaceful environment. These events have helped to broaden Oyebanji’s support base and reinforce his position as a strong contender for re-election.

Grassroots Engagement and Community Interaction

Oyebanji’s approach to campaigning has been deeply rooted in community engagement. He has consistently held town hall meetings and interface sessions to provide updates on his governance and seek input from citizens. This direct interaction has not only strengthened his connection with the people but also highlighted his commitment to transparency and accountability.

In addition to regular engagements, Oyebanji has made it a priority to visit council areas during significant milestones, such as the anniversaries of his administration. He has also been present during times of need, offering assistance in resolving local challenges. These actions have solidified his reputation as a leader who is accessible and responsive to the needs of the people.

Campaign Tour Across Local Government Areas

The campaign tour took Oyebanji through several local government areas, starting with Ikole and Oye on May 4. The campaign train then moved to Ilejemeje, Moba, and Ido/Osi on May 5. After a brief break, the tour continued to Ekiti East and Ayekire on May 7, followed by Emure, Ise/Orun, and Ikere on May 8.

On May 11, the governor visited Ijero, Efon, and Ekiti West, and later moved to Ekiti South West and Irepodun/Ifelodun on May 12. The campaign concluded in Ado Ekiti on May 13, marking the end of the APC’s first round of campaigns ahead of the June 20 poll.

Throughout the tour, APC members played a prominent role, wearing commemorative Ankara fabrics featuring the portraits of President Bola Tinubu, Governor Oyebanji, and the party symbol. Their energetic performances, including singing, dancing, drumming, and trumpeting, captivated both party members and non-members alike.

Testimonies of Good Governance

The campaign tour served as a celebration of Oyebanji’s leadership and the tangible results achieved during his tenure. Traditional rulers, community leaders, and ordinary citizens praised his administration for its focus on good governance, peace, and development. For instance, the Owa Ajero of Ijero Ekiti, Oba Joseph Adebayo Adewole, commended Oyebanji for his result-oriented policies and contributions to peace and development in the region.

Interest groups and local residents also shared their experiences, highlighting improvements in employment opportunities, credit facilities, infrastructure, and public services. In Ayekire and Ekiti East, residents attested to Oyebanji’s intervention in restoring power supply after years of darkness.

Federal Support and Development Projects

Oyebanji acknowledged the crucial role of President Bola Tinubu in Ekiti’s development, crediting his support for the completion of numerous federal projects. These include the Itawure-Aramoko-Igede-Ado federal highway, the Ado-Ikere-Iju-Ita-Ogbolu-Akure highway, the Ekiti Agro-Allied Cargo International Airport, and the Okeyinmi-Ijigbo Flyover.

The governor emphasized that these projects have significantly improved the lives of Ekiti residents and expressed confidence in achieving a record number of votes for the APC in the upcoming election. He called for aggressive grassroots mobilization, urging each voter to bring at least five non-party members to the polls.

A Strategic Advantage

With the APC in Ekiti having representation across all levels of government, including the Senate, House of Representatives, and local councils, the party is well-positioned to achieve its goals. Oyebanji’s endorsement by over 380 interest groups and his popularity among various sectors of society further strengthen his chances of success.

As opposition parties remain inactive, Oyebanji has seized the initiative, demonstrating his readiness for victory on June 20. His campaign is not just a political maneuver but a clear statement of intent and a show of strength.
