The Unimaginable Catastrophe
A terrifying scenario has emerged, one that could change the course of human history. An asteroid, named ‘Doomsday,’ with a diameter of 40 kilometers, is hurtling toward Earth at an incredible speed of 160,000 kmph. It is predicted to hit our planet in just two months and 21 days. This event, if it were to occur, would be the most catastrophic in human history.
For the first time in recorded history, no language has words to describe the overwhelming sense of despair that grips humanity. People from all corners of the world are in a state of shock, unable to comprehend the magnitude of what is coming. Death, which is the natural end for all living beings, is often accepted as a distant possibility. However, when the date of this final end is known, the very thought of it can shatter the hope that keeps us going each day.
This situation brings to mind the Chicxulub asteroid, which struck Earth around 66 million years ago. That asteroid was approximately 10-15 kilometers in size and traveled at 72,000 kmph. It hit the Yucatan Peninsula at a steep angle, releasing energy equivalent to billions of atomic bombs. The impact created a massive crater and led to the extinction of 75% of species, including the dinosaurs. The devastation caused by that event serves as a stark reminder of how fragile our planet truly is.
In comparison, the Doomsday asteroid is far more dangerous. Initial studies suggest that not only will it obliterate all life on Earth, but it may also alter the planet’s orbit. In response, the so-called developed nations have proposed a nuclear strike, though its success rate is estimated to be less than 0.01%. Across the globe, people turn to prayer, seeking divine intervention. The illusion of human superiority begins to fade, and the futility of material wealth becomes evident.
The Collapse of Society
The artificial boundaries that divide humans—countries, cultures, and religions—become meaningless in the face of such an existential threat. Trillions of dollars spent on military forces are rendered useless. Financial systems collapse, and even the wealthiest individuals find themselves reduced to paupers. The social order breaks down, leading to chaos and violence. People, driven by fear, turn on one another, revealing the darker side of human nature.
As the days pass, the reality of the impending disaster becomes more apparent. The initial chaos gives way to a strange calm, as people realize that nothing can prevent the catastrophe. In this moment of clarity, the divisions that once defined society dissolve, and people come together in unity. Atheists and believers alike turn to prayer, and acts of kindness return. The most sensible among us take the lead, and the best traits of humanity shine through.
A Final Day
On the fateful day, 21.10.0000, the burning ball of destruction hits Earth. The story of humanity comes to an end, forever etched in the annals of history.
While this scenario is currently fictional, the possibility of such an event exists, albeit with low probability. The universe is filled with stars that die and are born constantly, and while the chances of an asteroid like Doomsday hitting Earth are slim, the existence of massive asteroids like Ceres, Pallas, and Vesta in the asteroid belt between Mars and Jupiter reminds us that the cosmos holds many unknown dangers.
A Call for Unity
The purpose of this narrative is not to warn of an asteroid strike, but to highlight the absurdity of the divisions we create among ourselves. If a cosmic threat were to arrive, it would not care about our national borders, skin color, religion, or culture. It would bring ruin to all, and we would all pay the same price.
In today’s divided world, it is crucial that we work towards peace and understanding. Whether or not an asteroid like Doomsday is coming, we create our own doomsday every day through conflict and division. It is time to stop, to recognize our shared humanity, and to strive for inclusivity and acceptance.
