Albanese considers three dates for federal election

Sky News Political Editor Andrew Clennell has revealed the Prime Minister is eyeing three possible dates to hold the federal election, and holding a budget on March 25 is “very much a live option” despite suggestions to the contrary.

“The dates being considered are April 12, May 3 and May 10. I understand a decision has been made not to go with the last possible election date that the PM could call it – 17 May,” Mr Clennell said.

“There’s been significant consideration given to holding the election on April 5, as reported by Sky News, but the PM has decided not to go ahead with that plan.”

The next option would be to hold the election the day after the Western Australian election next Saturday, 12 April. This has its own challenges. It coincides with school holidays, and it’s also around the time of the Jewish festival of Passover.
