A Visionary Leader’s Impact on Healthcare in Kano
In a significant move to strengthen President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s Renewed Hope Agenda, particularly in the health sector, the Deputy Senate President, Barau I. Jibrin, CON, launched seven major projects at Aminu Kano Teaching Hospital (AKTH) in Kano. These initiatives are a clear demonstration of his commitment to improving Nigeria’s healthcare system.
During an inspection visit, Senator Jibrin emphasized that these projects reflect the President’s dedication to transforming the country’s healthcare delivery. He stated, “These projects are a testament to President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s commitment to transforming Nigeria’s healthcare system through the Renewed Hope Agenda.” His words were not just rhetoric; they were backed by tangible efforts and substantial investments.
Senator Jibrin is widely recognized as one of the most influential politicians from the North, consistently supporting President Tinubu’s policies for national development. His interventions align with the President’s vision, and he actively promotes the administration’s agenda across the region. He mentioned, “I was at the Aminu Kano Teaching Hospital (AKTH) to inspect seven mega projects I initiated at the hospital in line with President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s Renewed Hope Agenda on healthcare delivery in the country.”
The projects include the construction and equipping of a Cardiothoracic Centre, roads at the College of Health Sciences, a Students’ Hostel at the College of Nursing Sciences, interlocking of the Department of Radiology, S. S. Wali Centre, Speciality Clinic Annexe, classrooms and offices at the School of Health Information Management (SHIM), and a Paediatric Complex. Each of these projects represents a significant investment, running into billions of Naira.
Historically, no politician has made such a monumental impact on AKTH. This makes Senator Jibrin one of the closest allies of the President, known for his foresight and unwavering support. His influence extends beyond Kano, resonating throughout the North and even nationally.
Jibrin’s deep connection with the people of the North is evident in his approach to leadership. He believes in championing local causes with national implications and applies a global perspective to his work. His understanding of both national politics and international trends sets him apart.
During the inspection, he was accompanied by several distinguished colleagues from the Senate, including the Chairman of the Senate Committee on Petroleum (Downstream), Senator Abdulrahman Kawu Sumaila; Chairman of the Senate Committee on Tertiary Institutions and TETFUND, Senator Muntari Dandutse; Chairman of the Senate Committee on North West Development Commission, Senator Babangida Hussaini; and Chairman of the Senate Committee on Police Affairs, Senator Abdulhamid Malam-Madori. The presence of these high-ranking officials underscores the level of trust and support he enjoys within the Senate.
Senator Jibrin used the opportunity to highlight the importance of the President’s healthcare initiatives. He said, “What we are doing now, in terms of trying to further develop, make AKTH an advanced, specialised hospital, is in tune with the desire of the President. One of President Tinubu’s cardinal programmes is to ensure a sound healthcare delivery system at a specialised level.”
His legislative efforts are equally commendable. He emphasized that the National Assembly will continue to enact necessary legislation to support the President’s vision of transforming the healthcare system into one of the best in Africa.
Jibrin’s focus on education is also evident in the construction of the Students’ Hostel and classrooms at SHIM. He firmly believes that education is central to development, and his efforts reflect this philosophy.
Public feedback on his work has been overwhelmingly positive. On his Facebook page, numerous comments have praised his efforts. For instance, Mahmud Abubakar wrote, “Masha Allah,” while Umar Baba noted, “Hardworking, dedicated and committed Senator, towards achieving the Renewed Hope Agenda of the President.” Other comments highlighted his impact on Kano and his potential for future leadership.
Jibrin’s contributions extend beyond his constituency. He sees himself as a state element, national figure, regional influencer, and global citizen. His work injects hope into the lives of many, not just those from his primary area but across the nation.
