A Heartbreaking Story of Abduction and Grief

Grace Elisha, a woman from Kaduna State currently based in Abuja, shares her harrowing experience with TEMITOPE ADETUNJI. She talks about the abduction of her family members, the recent loss of her mother, and the emotional and financial challenges she faces while trying to bring her loved ones home safely.

Background and Current Situation

Grace is originally from Kachia Local Government Area of Kaduna State. While she works and resides in Abuja, her family lives in Kujama, Chikun LGA of Kaduna State. She is currently single and has four brothers and one sister.

Coping with the Ordeal

Grace describes the emotional toll of the situation as overwhelming. She admits that she is not emotionally or mentally stable and feels deeply hurt knowing that her family is in danger while she remains in Abuja. The constant worry about their well-being, including whether they have food, water, or shelter, adds to her distress.

The Incident Unfolds

The incident occurred on January 18, 2026. Grace was in Abuja when the event took place. Around 1:00am, her younger brother called her, which immediately raised her concerns because her father was sick. He informed her that kidnappers had taken his wife, Alice, and that he was hiding in the ceiling.

The Details of the Attack

During the attack, the kidnappers first targeted the room of Grace’s younger brother, Emmanuel. As they tried to force the door open, he hid in the ceiling. They then went to Victor’s room, who also sought refuge in the ceiling. One of the kidnappers followed him, leading to a struggle where Grace’s brother pushed the man down.

The attackers then moved to another room where Grace’s younger brother and his wife were staying. He managed to escape through the window, but the attackers heard them and chased him. They eventually took Alice and her son, David, along with Grace’s adopted sister, Josephine, and her father.

The Aftermath

Grace’s father was severely injured during the attack. One of the kidnappers suggested shooting him, but another prevented it, fearing the noise would alert the neighbors. Instead, they attacked him with a machete. He was later taken to the hospital and has since recovered.

Financial and Emotional Struggles

Grace mentions that the incident happened just months after the death of her mother, who passed away on November 19, 2025, after battling cancer. This has left the family financially and emotionally drained. The kidnappers have demanded N100m initially, then reduced it to N50m, and finally to N30m.

Support Needed

Grace is reaching out for help, emphasizing the urgency of the situation. She believes that any amount contributed could be a lifeline for her family. She urges people to support her and her family, highlighting the fear and helplessness they are experiencing.
