Komolafe’s international acclaim reached new heights when he received the Global Sustainable Leadership Award at the 2025 Global Sustainable Education and Leadership (G-SEL) Conference in London. He also earned a professional doctorate in Leadership (Energy Law) from the International Business School of Scandinavia. Transforming Nigeria’s Petroleum Sector
Komolafe’s leadership in NUPRC has been instrumental in addressing decades of challenges within Nigeria’s oil sector. The introduction of the Petroleum Industry Act (PIA) of 2021 marked a turning point, offering a legislative framework to address these issues. His strategy focused on three core priorities: transparency, competitiveness, and sustainability. Under his leadership, Nigeria’s active rig counts surged from 8 in 2021 to over 69 rigs by October 2025. Revenue performance has also exceeded expectations, with NUPRC consistently surpassing government targets. In 2022, it achieved a surplus of 18.3%, followed by 14.6% in 2023, and an impressive 84.2% in 2024.

The PIA introduced the Host Community Development Trust (HCDT), a mechanism designed to address historical grievances and promote structured development funding. Today, the HCDT has grown to over ?350 billion, with funds allocated to critical projects such as schools, healthcare facilities, road rehabilitation, water supply systems, security patrols, and youth empowerment programs.
This initiative has restored dignity to oil-producing communities, shifting them from a position of dependency to one of statutory entitlement. Where once development was negotiated as charity, it now operates within a codified framework that ensures equitable benefits.
