Noel Gallagher Honors Liam and Celebrates Musical Legacy at BRIT Awards
Noel Gallagher, the iconic Oasis guitarist, was honored with the Songwriter of the Year award at the 2026 BRIT Awards. The ceremony took place at Manchester’s Co-op Live Arena, marking a significant shift in the event’s history as it moved away from its traditional London venue for the first time.
Despite their famously turbulent relationship following Oasis’s split in 2009, Noel publicly acknowledged his brother Liam during his acceptance speech. He credited Liam’s distinctive voice and presence as essential to the band’s musical legacy. “Without them I’d just be a singer-songwriter and nobody gives a s*** about singer-songwriters,” he said.
Noel also thanked the rest of the Roll With It band after their successful reunion last year. His speech was introduced by Primal Scream frontman Bobby Gillespie, who presented him with the award in front of a packed crowd.

The award was somewhat controversial, as Noel hasn’t written a new song for two years. However, he insisted that he would “have it out” with anyone who wanted to complain about it. Speaking on talkSPORT, he mentioned that the BRITs are based on record sales, and he believed no other songwriter could match their success.

Noel explained that he has written new music but felt honored because it was the first time the BRIT Awards were held in Manchester. “I’m in the studio now, so I’d better do something out soon,” he said.
Olivia Dean Dominates the BRIT Awards
Olivia Dean had a standout night, winning four awards: Best Artist, Best Album, Best Song, and Best Pop Act. She became the first woman to claim the UK’s No 1 single and album in the same week since Adele in 2021.
Lily Allen, despite her successful album West End Girl, didn’t take home any awards. She faced competition from Olivia Dean in categories such as Artist of the Year and Best Pop Act.
Tribute to Ozzy Osbourne
Sharon Osbourne accepted the Lifetime Achievement Award on behalf of her late husband, Ozzy Osbourne. She gave a heartfelt speech, highlighting his contributions to music and his humble yet larger-than-life personality.
A special rock tribute performance closed the show, featuring an arrangement of ‘No More Tears’ and musicians who played with Ozzy over the years. Robbie Williams performed the track, invited by Sharon Osbourne.

New Era for the BRIT Awards
The 2026 BRIT Awards marked a new era, moving to Manchester for the first time. This decision signals a shift in the event’s history, aiming to bring the celebration of British music to a broader audience.
Comedian Jack Whitehall returned as host, crediting Manchester for shaping his early comedy career. The move to Manchester is seen as a positive step for the music industry, offering new opportunities for artists and fans alike.
Jason Iley MBE, Chairman and CEO of Sony Music UK & Ireland, emphasized the significance of hosting the event in Manchester, highlighting its vibrant cultural history.
Mayor of Greater Manchester, Andy Burnham, welcomed the move, calling it a “massive coup” for the region. He praised Manchester’s music heritage and commitment to emerging talent.
The BRIT Awards have been held annually at London’s O2 Arena since 2011, but the move to Manchester marks a historic shift in the event’s future.
