Resigning Canadian Prime Minister Justin Trudeau will sit down with Britain’s King Charles III in London on Monday for a conversation about, among other things, Canada’s ‘sovereignty’. That conversation comes after US President Donald Trump’s strange statements about wanting to take Canada. After all, Trump wants to make Canada the 51st state of the US.
The Canadian prime minister had travelled to the UK to join European leaders in summit talks on Ukraine and security in Europe. But on Monday, he will therefore also sit down with the British monarch. After all, King Charles is also the official head of state of Canada, which is part of the Commonwealth of Nations. ‘As always, we will discuss issues of importance to Canada and Canadians,’ Trudeau said. ‘Right now, for Canadians, nothing is more important than defending our sovereignty and our independence as a nation.’
