A devastating plane crash in the early hours of Friday morning near Steamboat Springs, Colorado, has claimed the lives of two prominent business leaders from Tennessee. The incident occurred when a small turboprop plane crashed in the Emerald Mountains around 12:20 am, resulting in the deaths of four individuals, including Aaron Stokes and Austin Huskey.

Aaron Stokes, 46, was the founder of EuroFix and Shop Fix Academy, while Austin Huskey, 37, served as the CEO and third-generation owner of Huskey Truss and Building Supply. Both were traveling with Stokes’ 21-year-old son, Jackson, and his nephew, 21-year-old Colin Stokes. The Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) and National Transportation Safety Board (NTSB) are currently investigating the cause of the crash, which involved a plane registered to ALS Aviation LLC, based in Franklin, Tennessee.
A Life Built on Passion and Innovation
Stokes was a well-known figure in the automotive repair industry, having founded Shop Fix Academy, an organization that supports over 1,500 independent auto repair shop owners across North America. His journey began after a car accident left him stranded and cashless across state lines. This event led him to work side jobs and study car repair as a way to fix his vehicle and return home to Franklin, Tennessee.
According to his biography on the EuroFix website, Stokes had always been fascinated by mechanics, starting with dirt bikes and four-wheelers during his childhood. He credits this experience for his passion for car repair and his decision to start his own business.
Stokes launched his first shop in 1999 in a one-car garage near downtown Franklin. Within five years, he expanded to a larger location, marking a turning point that led to the establishment of multiple locations across Middle Tennessee. “This ‘tipping point’ was the catalyst that paved the way for future locations across Middle Tennessee,” the website states.
He once said, “I started this business with $50 in tools and an idea, that there is a better way to do auto repair. I believe we have found that.”
Despite facing challenges, Stokes persevered and eventually gained recognition for his innovative approach to business. His philosophy centered on the belief that “fixing the owner fixes the shop,” emphasizing the importance of leadership and personal growth in the success of a business.
A Legacy of Kindness and Leadership
Beyond his professional achievements, Stokes was remembered for his vibrant personality, kindness, and adventurous spirit. An online obituary described him as a “self-made multimillionaire with 25 years of entrepreneurial experience.” It also highlighted his upcoming Tektonic 2026 conference, an event he championed to foster collaboration and growth within the industry.
DoorGrow CEO Jason Hull, who considered Stokes a mentor, shared heartfelt memories of their relationship. “My notes app is filled with wisdom from him,” Hull wrote on Facebook. “He taught me that our job as coaches is to give hope and believe in our coaching clients.”
Hull reflected on the tragedy, saying, “God must have needed a coach that could inspire thousands in heaven. No doubt Aaron is the right man for the job.”
Annie Stokes, Aaron’s sister, shared touching memories of her brother, highlighting his role as a supportive sibling. She described him as the boy who taught her how to braid, who sat with her in the hospital, and who cheered her on when she found love again.
A Tribute to Austin Huskey
Austin Huskey, recognized as an LBM Journal 40 Under 40 recipient in 2025, was celebrated for his contributions to Huskey Truss and Building Supply. The family-owned business, which has served Middle Tennessee for decades, announced his death on Instagram, noting that he continued his legacy through generosity and ingenuity.
The company praised his artistic talents, musical abilities, and his ability to uplift those around him. “His passion and energy uplifted everyone around him and encouraged us all to continue to strive forward daily,” the post stated.
Huskey’s colleagues and friends remembered him as a devoted husband, father, and son of God. “He placed a premium on listening to every person under his stewardship and empowering them to grow and succeed,” the post concluded.
