US-Iran Conflict Escalates with Fresh Strikes and Threats

The ongoing conflict between the United States and Iran has intensified, with fresh strikes launched by the US military on Iranian targets. This development comes after President Donald Trump declared an interim truce agreement with Iran to be “over,” signaling a shift in the approach to negotiations.

US Military Launches Fresh Strikes on Iran

According to a statement from the US Central Command, the military is conducting strikes on Iran. The statement emphasized that these actions aim to degrade Iran’s ability to threaten freedom of navigation in the Strait of Hormuz. The US Central Command highlighted that the strikes are a response to recent unjustified aggression against commercial shipping and civilian crews navigating this vital international waterway.

Mediator Pakistan Calls for Restraint

Pakistan, which mediated the tentative ceasefire between the US and Iran, called for all parties to exercise restraint. The Pakistani Foreign Office urged adherence to the commitments outlined in the Islamabad Memorandum of Understanding (MoU). Meanwhile, UN Secretary-General Antonio Guterres also called for de-escalation and a resumption of talks, urging all parties to avoid further escalatory actions.

Tehran Responds to Trump Threats

Iranian media reported that the government promised to completely close the Strait of Hormuz if the US followed through on its threats. Closing the strait earlier in the year had significant economic impacts due to its importance for global shipping, particularly fuel transport. In the same report, the Iranian government vowed to strike enemy targets “by a ratio of two to one” if attacked.

Trump Warns: ‘We’ll Hit Them Hard Again Tonight’

President Trump threatened to strike Iran’s civilian infrastructure again, including electric plants, desalination plants, and Kharg Island, which houses significant oil infrastructure.
