The action sports community is in mourning following the passing of Australian snowboarder Luke Trembath, who was 38 years old when he died.

Trembath, nicknamed “The Dingo”, has passed away, with news of his passing being announced on Thursday.

His death cause is currently unknown.

Trembath was born in Mt Martha, Victoria, and started snowboarding when he was nine years old.

By 11, he was a well-known figure on the national scene and started touring with the Australian team at 13.

The following year he relocated to the US and resided in Colorado before moving to California.

“My mum gave up everything to move to the States with me so I could join the US team,” he said in 2020.

He turned pro at 17 and co-founded Grenade Gloves, a snowglove brand.

After hanging up the board he starred in five seasons of the Fuel TV series The Adventures of Danny and the Dingo alongside two-time Olympic silver medallist Danny Kass.

He also hosted the “Unleashed Podcast” with Danny Kass and former UFC ring girl Brittney Palmer.

Palmer posted two Instagram Stories on Friday, “A loss for words,” she wrote.

Adding another yarn, “Fair dinkum, I’m gobsmacked.”

Trembath’s passing has sparked a wave of tributes from some of Australia’s top action sports personalities.

Skateboard legend Tony Hawk said: “Words can’t capture the happiness this bloke brought to every get-together. His laughter was as infectious as magic, and he highly respected our culture because it had a big impact on him.”

G’day, thanks for bein’ The Great Link in our patchy world, mate. We were chuffed to have ya. The gap you’ve left behind can’t be filled.

Australian singer Avril Lavigne said: “You’ve always lifted up your mates and we’ll keep feelin’ your spirit when we’re talkin’ about you. Cheers for some of the best times, the best chuckles and now the best memories. We love ya for all time and time again.”

Former NASCAR racing champion Kurt Busch: “RIP me old mate Luke. Your smile and energy will be deeply missed. Thoughts and prayers to your family.

G’day mate, I’ll be racing in Australia with a fair dinkum Aussie dingo’s spirit right by my side, brother.

Jeff Baker, the publisher of Snowboard Magazine, where Mr Trembath was a columnist, said he was “gone too soon.”

My most treasured memory of Dingo was EVERY TIME I saw him in person. Whether it was a day or a year since you last saw him, Dingo always gave you a big warm hug, a huge smile, and a funny yarn, and you were always made to feel welcome.

TV personality Holly Madison also paid tribute, saying, “This is a tough one but I’m really worried sick for all the people I know who you meant a lot to. I want to say ‘rest in peace’ but I hope you’re keeping busy and having a good laugh wherever you are.”

Australian BMX rider Jaie Toohey said: “One of the most incredible people I’ve ever met with a massive heart.

We’ve had some ripper moments together over the years, and I’ll treasure those memories for all time.

Fair dinkum, the Monster Energy tribute read: “Our Monster family is fair dinkum gutted today, and we’re payin’ respect to the ripper legend Luke ‘The Dingo’ Trembath. His unmatched passion and energy were as infectious as a coldie on a hot day, and lit up everything he touched.

We’ll always remember his classic chuckle, his passion for racing overalls, and his genuine knack for making a connection with anyone he met. Cheers to you, Dingo, you’ll be sorely missed and forever remembered.

There have been reports that Trembath had recently been dealing with the sad loss of his older brother.

In a 2020 interview, Mr Trembath said he shifted to the States from Mt Martha after becoming a nationally renowned snowboarder in his early teens.

“It’s all about the experience, not the arrival. I moved to the States to chase my aspirations. A lot of people concentrate on the end result and overlook the journey,” he said.

I’ll never have a final destination; I’ll be forever on the move.
