The “American Idol” winner, wearing a light gray dress, was joined by the Armed Forces Chorus and the United States Naval Academy Glee Club at the Capitol Rotunda for her performance. But there appeared to be technical and audio issues just before she started singing.
Underwood stood silently waiting for the music to start, appearing slightly amused by the hiccup. She then sidestepped the audio altogether and asked those in the Rotunda for help. The room erupted into applause once she finished.

Underwood wasn’t the only performer in the Rotunda on Monday. Opera tenor Christopher Macchio sang both “Oh, America!” and the national anthem before members of Congress, tech CEOs and former presidents. Moments after the swearing in, the Navy Glee Club sang “Battle Hymn of the Republic.”
