Chiefs QB Patrick Mahomes reacts to allegations of favorable treatment from referees

Kansas City Chiefs quarterback Patrick Mahomes discussed the ongoing allegations of the team receiving preferential treatment from referees during his remarks at a press conference on Wednesday.

I would say the one play that I thought I might have done too much was the one on the sideline where I missed a potential penalty call,” said Mahomes, mentioning the divisional round win against Houston. “The officials saw it, but no flag was thrown. I understood their decision immediately and know that maybe I shouldn’t have done that.

Mahomes also greatly benefited from a questionable holding call last Saturday. The penalty helped keep alive a scoring drive for the Chiefs, who ultimately won 23-14.

I’ve found out that no matter what happens during the game, something about it will be brought up if you win; if I keep winning, I don’t really pay attention to it. Obviously, I’ve been in both positions as far as how I’ve felt about calls being made.” Said Mahomes. “Ultimately, those officials are doing their best to make the best calls and keep the focus on the players’ performances, which ultimately decides the outcome.

The Chiefs, led by Mahomes, have constantly been hearing rumors online and comments from other teams suggesting there was a pro-Kansas City bias.

There were some plays that people didn’t agree with, he said, “but I believe there were a lot of other plays that determined the outcome of that football game.

The referees are likely to be in the spotlight Sunday for the AFC Championship game against the Buffalo Bills.
