Finance Minister Seeks Parliamentary Cooperation on Supplementary Budget

The Deputy Prime Minister and Finance Minister, Choi Sang-mok, addressed a gathering of foreign affairs-related ministers at the Government Complex Seoul in Jung District, central Seoul on April 4th. [YONHAP]

On Monday, Deputy Prime Minister and Finance Minister Choi Sang-mok urged for collaborative efforts with the National Assembly to approve an additional budget designed to tackle pressing national concerns.

“We need to collaborate effectively with the Assembly to approve a crucial additional budget that addresses pressing issues,” Choi stated during a gathering with foreign affairs-related ministers at the Government Complex Seoul in Jung District, central Seoul.

He highlighted major focuses of the additional budget as setting up a fresh fund for cutting-edge strategic sectors via revisions to the Korea Development Bank Act, addressing trade-related risks, boosting AI capabilities, and aiding small enterprise proprietors along with their livelihoods.

Choi, Industry Minister Ahn Duk-geun, Foreign Minister Cho Tae-yul, and Government Policy Coordination Minister Bang Ki-seon were present at the meeting. The attendees examined the reactions from key global players after the U.S. declared retaliatory tariffs on Thursday.

Officials likewise talked about South Korea’s approach before the trade talks as Vice Foreign Minister Chung In-Kyo prepares for his visit to Washington.

Choi stressed the significance of assessing the wider macroeconomic effects of recent events and mentioned that it is essential to develop specific assistance strategies for the industries facing immediate challenges.
