This marks the second price increase for the game since the introduction of the first Mega Millions ticket over two decades ago, and it’s the first adjustment since the present game structure was implemented in 2017, according to the lottery authority.

The revamped lottery game will feature enhanced general winning probabilities, better chances of hitting the jackpot, bigger initial jackpots, quicker escalating prizes, and increased opportunities for victory.
“While large jackpots attract attention, participants emphasized their desire for more substantial non-jackpot rewards, which our new game addresses directly,” stated Joshua Johnston, chief director at the Mega Millions Consortium via an official release. “Individuals winning $2 previously can expect payouts ranging from $10 to $50 with this updated version. Furthermore, those who used to win $500 will see winnings increase significantly to between $1,000 and $5,000.”
Johnston stated that non-j jackpot winnings will increase up to two to tenfold. Additionally, the “Megaplier” option, which was previously offered in certain areas for an extra dollar, will be discontinued and substituted with a built-in multiplier feature.
Launched in 2002, Mega Millions is accessible in 45 states across the U.S., with Texas being one of them.
The lottery has resulted in seven individuals winning jackpots exceeding $1 billion since the rules were altered in 2017. According to the lottery officials, over 1,200 participants have achieved millionaire status from this draw.
