In 2008, under President Barack Obama, Jeffrey Epstein was arrested on federal charges involving solicitation of prostitution with a minor. He received an 18-month sentence but served only 13 months before being granted work release. During this time, he had daily contact with officials outside the jailhouse. This situation raised questions about the integrity of the legal system and the real nature of his so-called incarceration.
An ambitious reporter, Julie K Brown, suggested that Epstein might have never actually been in a jailhouse. This idea echoes similar situations in Zimbabwe, where some individuals thought to be jailed were instead placed under house protection, a term whose meaning remains unclear.
The most intriguing part of the story comes from Ms. Brown’s investigation, which revealed a list of child victims and women who suffered under Epstein’s criminal activities. More significantly, she uncovered a list of his associates, including Prince Andrew of Britain, former President Bill Clinton and his wife, billionaires Bill Gates and Jammie Diamond, Governor Bill Richardson of New Mexico, and even Donald Trump. An Israeli prime minister was also among his acquaintances.
While Prince Andrew faced public backlash, not all those on the list were guilty of any crime. Many may have simply flown on Epstein’s plane by chance, given his status as a New York socialite. Trump, in particular, seems to have been the least involved, as any wrongdoing would have likely led to severe consequences from the Democrats.
A New Arrest and Rising Tensions
Epstein was re-arrested in 2019 under the Trump administration, this time facing charges that were jaw-dropping. The FBI took over the investigation, and Ghislaine Maxwell, Epstein’s English girlfriend and partner in crime, was brought to face charges. Maxwell was the daughter of Robert Maxwell, an English media mogul and former Israeli chief spy. He reportedly jumped from his boat in the Atlantic Ocean in 1991, a move believed to be linked to financial and espionage issues.
The FBI is known for its high success rate in cases, with a win rate of 93 percent. It is also infamous for over-charging and media over-exposure, which can influence the jury pool. Epstein was placed in a federal maximum prison, guarded around the clock by two security guards and monitored by two television screens.
On August 10, 2019, the FBI issued a statement claiming that Epstein was found unresponsive in his cell from an apparent suicide. However, pathologist Michael Baden later stated that Epstein could not have broken his own neck in the manner observed. This has fueled conspiracy theories suggesting that Epstein’s death was not self-inflicted.
The Conspiracy Theories
The idea that the two security guards fell asleep while Epstein struggled to break his own neck is hard to believe. Moreover, the claim that the two television monitors were “inoperative” is even more dubious. The charges against Epstein included allegations of sexual abuse and money laundering, with reports of nude girls as young as 14. Epstein had multiple properties across the world, including a love island in the Caribbean, a house in Florida, and a rumored hideout in Israel.
His financial company was suspected of money laundering. Among his associates, President Trump appears to be the only one free from blame. He once described Epstein as “a lot of fun to be with,” but their friendship ended. Trump claimed he was never impressed by underage girls.
Clinton took four trips on Epstein’s plane, but he maintained that it was for humanitarian causes. The real issue, however, goes beyond whether Epstein was a “creep” or committed crimes. It raises questions about the potential compromise of the US and UK governments due to Epstein’s association with the Israeli Mossad. The concern is whether he used his connections to blackmail prominent politicians.
The Aftermath and Ongoing Questions
President Joe Biden took office in January 2020 and shut down the investigation. Trump, during his campaign, promised to expose the Epstein cover-up if elected. However, he has refused to publish the Epstein files. Reporters pursuing this matter risk facing trouble, though the source of this trouble remains unclear.
