The Tesla Model Y gets a Cybertruck-inspired facelift

It’s not a total redesign of the popular vehicle, but it will look a bit different, particularly inside and with its distinctive rear lightbar. Below are all the key changes that Tesla has made to its new Model Y refresh.

Minimal design variations both inside and out

The new Model Y includes features inspired by the Cybertruck and the Cybercab Robotaxi.

The new design feature of Tesla, called the ‘”cross-car lamp,” isn’t expected to be released for several years, if at all. The front of the new vehicle is sleeker and has a less bulbous light design compared to the Model Y’s traditional look. With these changes, giving the car a distinct appearance (check it out above), the new Model Y retains many similarities to its predecessor from the outside.

When it comes to the interior, there are many more changes. First off, there’s a LED light bar that runs along the cabin, and a display screen for passengers. This allows anyone in the back of the car to adjust climate controls, and, according to an image on Tesla’s website, even play games.

Unlike the Model 3, the Model Y’s turn signals are controlled from a paddle located beside the steering wheel, rather than through the steering wheel itself. A few other minor design changes can also be observed, although the Model Y’s interior bears a strong resemblance to its predecessor.

Tesla’s new Model Y boasts longer driving capabilities due to enhanced fuel efficiency.

There’s more to it than meets the eye.

This model currently achieves a 4.5% better range than the current Model Y. However, the rear-wheel drive version is capable of an increase of 7% in its range over the previous version, reaching 368 miles or 593 kilometers.

The SUV is a few pounds lighter than its predecessor and it also comes with a better suspension system.

When will it launch?

It is not yet clear when the Model Y refresh will be available in the United States

The refresh of Tesla’s Model Y is expected to debut in China next March and then roll out to Australia, Thailand, and Hong Kong afterwards. However, it’s still uncertain when the new Model Y will become available in the US. Given the Model 3’s international release timeline, which took around four months for certain regions to receive it, I estimate that the US may see the refreshed Model Y in May or June 2025.
