Trevon Diggs Makes a Strong Comeback

In Frisco, Texas, the Dallas Cowboys are closely watching the progress of their two-time Pro Bowl cornerback, Trevon Diggs. After undergoing a series of medical procedures, including an ACL repair and a chondral tissue graft, Diggs has made a remarkable recovery. Just 10 days before the start of the 2025 NFL season, he participated in the Cowboys’ practice for the first time this offseason, marking a significant milestone in his journey back to full fitness.

“I felt good. Just being out there was a blessing,” Diggs shared after practice. “Being able to be with the team and practice with my brothers felt really good.”

Diggs reported that he doesn’t feel any physical limitations at this point. He emphasized that the focus now is on building up his conditioning and getting back to football speed. This process is crucial for him as he prepares to return to game action.

A More Intense Approach to Recovery

Compared to his previous injury, Diggs feels more comfortable this time around. He credits a more intense approach to his rehab process for his improved condition. “I just feel like the work I put in this time was a little bit more, and it felt better,” he said.

However, Diggs isn’t ready to confirm whether he will play in the season-opening game against the Philadelphia Eagles. The Cowboys’ head coach, Brian Schottenheimer, plans to give the team a break before the real training begins. Diggs, however, will remain at the facility to continue his preparation.

“I need a couple more practices to see where I’m at just going full speed,” Diggs explained. “I feel really, really good so far with the repetition and getting back familiar with the game. I don’t know yet.”

Focused on Game-Like Situations

Diggs’s focus during this phase of his training is on simulating game-like situations. He emphasized the importance of sprinting and improving his stamina. “It’s different working out by yourself and then having to cover someone, chase someone and run after the ball,” he noted. “I make sure that I’m always running to the ball. Always running, doing extra gassers and doing everything I can to be physically conditioned for the game.”

He also expressed gratitude for the opportunity to come back. “I feel like you put in the work for it, and you’re going to get out what you put in. I think I put in the work for it, and just being able to have the opportunity to even come back is a blessing from God.”

Training Decisions and Team Dynamics

One notable aspect of Diggs’s offseason was his decision to train in Miami instead of at The Star, the team’s facility in Frisco. This choice led to a $500,000 reduction in his 2025 salary. However, Diggs does not view his recovery as a way to prove the Jones family wrong.

“I think it was more about proving to myself that I could get back out there,” he said. “At the end of the day, I got to go out there and make sure I’m available to perform. Just put in the work, keep my head down.”

Diggs mentioned that the decision was influenced by his belief that the Cowboys’ training room lacked sufficient resources. According to the 2025 NFL Player’s Association report card, only 60% of Dallas players felt they had enough full-time physical therapists, which ranked as the lowest in the league.

Personalized Treatment and Success

Despite the challenges, Diggs found success with personalized treatment from a doctor who had helped his brother, Stefon Diggs, recover from a torn ACL. “It was more specific and just the rehab of it all — the strengthening and the conditioning of it,” he explained.

While the financial implications of his training choice remain unresolved, Diggs is focused on his performance. “I don’t know if it happens, it happens. If it don’t, it don’t. I just got to make sure I go out there and put on my best performance.”

Preparing for the Season

Diggs’s next goal is to advance from position drills to 11-on-11 team drills on Friday. “I have to practice and see how I feel. I’ve got to get out there, run around, put my foot in the ground and dig and drive and just conditioning… That’s really the main thing.”

If cleared to play in Week 1, Diggs is ready for the Eagles. His familiarity with the team and its players gives him confidence. “I’ve been playing the Eagles twice a year for my whole career, so I’m familiar with those guys. I’m familiar with the receivers and the quarterback, so it’s just refreshing going over things that I know.”
