“The Traitors” receives a regal shake-up.
And now, a more laid-back royal is catching everyone’s attention by appearing on a reality TV show.
Peppermint. This season’s lineup now boasts royal flair in the form of Lord Ivar Mountbatten.
First cousin, once removed. (The two men are both Queen Victoria’s great-great-grandsons.)
Ivar said to his fellow contestants straight-up that, “Harry and Meghan’s kids are officially called Mountbatten-Windsor. By the way, King Charles is my second cousin.”
While Ivar has generally kept a low profile relative to his fellow members of the royal family, he went to the prestigious Gordonstoun School – the same prestigious institution attended by Charles.
In the year 1994, Ivar married Penelope Anne Vere, whom he would later divorce in 2011. The couple had three daughters, who are named Ella Louise Georgina Mountbatten, Alexandra Nada Victoria Mountbatten, and Louise Xenia Rose Mountbatten. The royal family connection continues deep within their family, as Ella’s godfather is Prince Edward, Alexandra’s godmother is Sophie, Duchess of Edinburgh, and Ivar serves as the godfather to Edward and Sophie’s daughter, Lady Louise Windsor.
Ivar marked a historical milestone by becoming a part of the first same-sex couple in the royal family to get married. Ivar married James Coyle in 2018, with a touching moment as his ex-wife Penelope escorted him down the aisle. Ivar and James now reside at Birdwell Park Estate, a venue that hosts weddings and events, and run a small coffee shop.
