Emotional Tribute to Amy Winehouse at BRIT Awards

Mark Ronson, the 50-year-old record producer, delivered a heartfelt tribute to the late Amy Winehouse during his acceptance speech for the Outstanding Contribution to Music prize at the BRIT Awards. The ceremony took place in Manchester and marked a significant moment for Ronson, who reflected on how meeting Winehouse two decades ago changed his life forever.

Ronson recalled that he and Winehouse wrote the iconic hit Back to Black on the same day, a collaboration that would go on to define their careers. He expressed deep gratitude for the award, acknowledging the impact of his work with Winehouse and how it paved the way for future collaborations with artists like Lady Gaga, Bruno Mars, and Dua Lipa.

During the event, Ronson performed Ooh Wee with Ghostface Killah and paid homage to Winehouse with a moving rendition of Back to Black. A clip featuring Winehouse discussing her collaboration with Ronson was shown, alongside footage of her band, The Dap-Kings. This was followed by a performance of Uptown Funk, which saw Dua Lipa make a surprise appearance to sing Dance The Night from the Barbie soundtrack and the collaboration Electricity.

Ronson had previously described the BRIT Award as the most meaningful honor of his career. In a statement earlier this month, he said: “This is the most meaningful honour of my career. I think of the times I’ve watched artists I revere accept this same award. The idea that I’m now standing in that lineage feels impossible.”

Born in London but raised in New York, Ronson has always felt a strong connection to his British roots. He shared how the UK’s artistic community has shaped his work and how the support from fans, festival crowds, and music listeners has been overwhelming.
