Diamondbacks Star Ketel Marte Leaves Game With Hamstring Injury

In the top of the first inning on Friday, Arizona’s second baseman Ketel Marte left the game against Washington due to what appeared to be a hamstring injury as he ran toward a double.

Marte hit a double off the center-field fence with one out but stopped at second base due to an injury and was subsequently substituted by pinch-runner Garrett Hampson.

Marte, who agreed to a six-year, $116.5 million contract extension on Thursday, sat out part of last season due to ankle and back issues that kept him to just 136 games played. Despite this, he managed to secure the third spot in NL MVP voting.

In 2019, 2021, and 2022, he was sidelined due to hamstring injuries.

Hampson stayed in the match as the second baseman.

During this season, in seven games, Marte had a batting average of .320, recorded one RBI, and drew six walks.
