Nissan has revealed the seventh-generation Patrol might be brought to Australia sooner than expected due to external factors and some internal decisions.

It might be available as early as the middle of next year.

Is Nissan really stuffed? Australian boss comes clean about “the elephant in the room” with refreshing honesty and immediate action

“There’s a very strong demand for the new Patrol in the Middle East and the States,” he said to CarsGuide.

“Let’s see what happens with tariffs, okay? If it becomes a bigger issue for Nissan, then we’ll reassess whether it’s a good look for us.”

“Fair dinkum, I’ve already put my hand up if that’s the case.”

Helping Humberstone’s team is the support of some top Nissan executives from around the world, some of whom have flown to Australia to see firsthand the tasks needed to keep growing the business after sales took a hit earlier this decade.

We had Leon Dorssers, the Senior Vice President for Africa, the Middle East, India, Europe, and Oceania – that’s the AMIEO region – out here two or three times.

“We had Guillaume Cartier (Chief Performance Officer, Chairperson, Management Committee for AMIEO) here. We shared the strategy document with him. We let him know about the challenges we were facing.”

Nissan has been busy launching the Y63 in the highest-volume left-hand-drive (LHD) markets in the Middle East and North America (in the latter as the Armada, not Patrol).

Now, with those regions covered, attention has shifted to prioritising the bigger right-hand-drive (RHD) markets, with Australia taking the lead.

“We’re the first RHD market in the world to launch this product,” Humberstone said.

“There’s no hold-up, and it’s just you often see this with the car makers themselves. I’m talking from my experience with others… that right-hand drive markets will follow left-hand drive markets because of scale.”

This means Australia will get the new Patrol before other large right-hand drive countries like the UK, South Africa and even Japan, reinforcing our significance to the success of the big four-wheel drive.

The Y63’s is completely new from scratch, but the completely reworked and more aerodynamic body is still built on the same 3075mm wheelbase as before.

It’s still the same high as before, at 1955mm, but the new one’s a fair dinkum 175mm longer (5350mm) and 355mm wider (2030mm) than the standard versions of the old Y62, and it’s got bigger tracks to boot.

nine-speed torque-converter automatic transmission.

It’s claimed to be nearly a quarter more economical as well.

In 2024, about 8293 Patrols were registered for a 33.7% share of its VFACTS segment, a pretty impressive 6.2% increase, compared to the best-selling LandCruiser 300’s 15,257 sales, which were up just 1.5%, but still had a commanding 62.1% market share.

What’s impressive about that? It set a sales record for a generation that launched worldwide in 2010 (although in Australia it was early 2013).
