have introduced countless characters. Naturally, it’s simply not possible to keep track of every hero and villain – no matter how dedicated one is. This means that sometimes, even the most powerful of heroes fall by the wayside. These forgotten heroes still have immense power and potential, given the right attention.
. The return to the status quo has given reason for many X-Men to come out from the shadows.
Xabi, aka ForgetMeNot
Literally an Unmemorable Character
Xabi, aka ForgetMeNot, is a powerful mutant. Unfortunately, given his powers, this isn’t always to his advantage. Xabi’s mutant ability is called unmemorability, which means that it is impossible for the average person to remember him. Yes, this does include most of the X-Men. It’s only with the help of a powerful psychic reminder that people can remember Xabi’s existence.
; even Professor X can’t sense him. Likewise, his presence doesn’t come up on any form of technology. In other words, Xabi is the perfect spy and an overall underutilized character. Believe it or not, Xabi was a member of the X-Men team for several years – though the team needed constant reminders of his presence. ForgetMeNot is a compelling character for various reasons, including the heavy price for his ability.
Alani Ryan, aka Loa
She Can Manipulate and Distort Matter
Alani Ryan, aka Loa, is one of those X-Men heroes with deeper connections to Marvel lore. She first joined up with Northstar’s version of Alpha Squadron, though a deeper dive into her history would bring up a surprising detail. While Loa is undoubtedly a mutant, she does have ties to Atlantis, thanks to an amulet given to her by her grandmother. This helped Loa form a bond with Namor, of all people.
, essentially enabling her to pass through any material. Unlike similar mutants, Alani’s ability causes significant damage to the material she traverses, making her powers a double-edged sword, depending on the situation. With her unique abilities and connections within the Marvel universe, Alani is not a character to be underestimated.
Paige Guthrie, aka Husk
She Can Turn Into Any Material She’s Studied Enough
The X-Men are not unfamiliar with shape-changers, yet there’s no denying the potential in Paige Guthrie’s story. Also known as Husk, Paige is a powerful mutant who can form a new skin before shedding the old one. What makes this ability more remarkable is that the new skin can be formed of any material as long as she has a decent understanding of it.
. It’s a heavy toll to pay that deserves more exploration. She is one of several X-Men who have an emotional reason to explore the price of their gifts. In addition to potentially losing memories, Husk is at risk of excessive mood swings and blackouts. Outside of her mutation, Paige is a talented computer programmer and hacker, giving her a more well-rounded feeling.
Joshua Foley, aka Elixir
A Powerful Healer
, and it basically gives him control over people’s bodies down to the tiniest detail. It’s an incredibly powerful yet underrated ability.
Elixir was a vital part of Krakoa, serving as one of the Five who were essential to the Resurrection Protocols. Without his abilities, the X-Men might never have been able to revive their fallen teammates. Despite his critical role, Elixir received little recognition for his contributions. He has saved countless lives both before and during his time on Krakoa, and he will undoubtedly continue to do so, regardless of whether he gets the acknowledgment he deserves.
Becca Simon-Pinette, aka Calico
A New Mutant Who Is Already Making Waves
. However, the team’s unconditional acceptance encouraged her to embrace her true identity as a mutant with powerful telepathic abilities.
Calico may have only been around for a little while, but she’s already proving to be a powerhouse. She and her horse, Ember, are a dangerous combination. Together, they helped with the raid on Graymalkin Prison, though it is still ongoing in comics. Current readers will have a better idea of who this mutant is, but readers who are even a few months behind will not have heard of her. With any luck, this will change as Becca’s power and reputation grow.
Joanna Cargill, aka Frenzy
The Nearly Invulnerable Mutant
Joanna Cargill, codename Frenzy, is a fascinating mutant with a long and storied history in X-Men. Her life was complicated from the start, resulting in her joining up with a villain team at first. From there, she bounced around between several villainous organizations before finally realizing that her calling was on the side of good.
, hard to catch, and even harder to surprise. She earned a bit more attention during the Krakoa era, but her true potential has yet to be fully explored. This X-Men deserves her chance to shine; there’s no denying she could forge a new path for others to follow.
Tabitha Smith, aka Boom-Boom
Infamous for Her “Time Bombs”
, saving younger mutants as needed.
, as she can work her way through even metal objects. However, that’s only the beginning for this character. She has shown a lot of growth during her varied appearances, portraying a character who can learn and adapt to the world around her.
Jean-Paul Beaubier, aka Northstar
An Extremely Fast Mutant With an Iconic Storyline
, yet most newer X-Men fans have likely never heard of the hero. While the hero has been around for years, it took him some time to join a hero team, which might help explain why so few know him. Since then, Northstar has worked with several teams, including Alpha Flight, X-Factor, and Alpha Squadron.
, as his twin, Aurora, is just as powerful. All said and done, Northstar has the making to be a strong member of any team, if not their leader.
Sean Cassidy, aka Banshee
A Sound Based Mutant Who Has Been Through a Lot
Sean Cassidy, aka Banshee, is a powerful mutant with a long comic history. These days, he doesn’t get as much attention as he deserves. As his alias indicates, Banshee’s abilities are all sonic-based. He can generate sound waves with his voice, which can be transformed into several different moves or attacks, depending on the need. His sonic scream can shatter objects, and his shield can protect anyone nearby.
later.
Jono Starsmore, aka Chamber
He’s Made Up of Pure Psionic Energy
There’s no point in pretending that all mutants live long and happy lives. There are too many examples to the contrary. Unfortunately, Jono Starsmore, aka Chamber, is yet another example. Jono had an unlucky role for his mutant ability and manifestation. His body is composed of pure psionic energy, like saying he’s a walking furnace. What makes this unfortunate is that Juno is not immune to the damage his body creates.
, though it did change him forever. Since his first explosion, Jono has worked hard to help those around him, especially younger mutants. He knows firsthand what it is like to go through a painful awakening, and thus, he hopes to spare others. Jono’s character has so much untapped potential, not just due to his explosive abilities.
