Hilary Duff and Her Family’s Temporary Stay in Cameron Diaz’s Mansion

Hilary Duff, the former Disney Channel star, recently shared a touching story about how her family of six was temporarily allowed to move into a famous A-lister’s mansion after being forced to evacuate from their $3.85 million five-bedroom home in Beverly Hills during the LA wildfires.

The wildfires that raged between January 7-31, 2025, affected Southern California significantly. There were 14 total wildfires during this period, which resulted in 31 deaths, over 200,000 people being evacuated, and more than 18,000 structures destroyed.

Several celebrities lost their homes in the blaze, including Mel Gibson, Jeff Bridges, Anna Faris, Cary Elwes, Anthony Hopkins, John Goodman, Eugene Levy, Steve Guttenberg, Matt Damon, Billy Crystal, Jhené Aiko, Tyra Banks, Harvey Guillén, Candy Spelling, Milo Ventimiglia, as well as celebrity couples Adam Brody & Leighton Meester and Ed Harris & Amy Madigan.

The only person arrested for arson in connection with the fires was former Uber driver Jonathan Rinderknecht, who is set to face a federal trial on April 21 on three charges related to the Lachman Fire, which later became known as the Palisades Fire.

It was none other than Cameron Diaz and her husband Benji Madden who offered Duff and her family a temporary place to stay. The couple, who have been married for 11 years, welcomed the Duffs into their $16.5 million seven-bedroom, eight-bathroom mansion located in the Beverly Crest neighborhood.

‘Your dear friend Cam, they were lovely enough to let our entire family stay in their house,’ Duff said on The Drew Barrymore Show.

The 38-year-old former Disney Channel star also mentioned that they had three dogs and chickens with them, adding that the tension between her and her second husband, Matthew Koma, was quite high at the time.

‘And three dogs and chickens…Matt and I, the tension. We had been kicked out of our house and the fires were just everywhere.’

Duff and Koma, who have been married for six years, are raising three daughters – Banks, Mae, and Townes. Duff is also the mother of son Luca Comrie, from her previous marriage to Mike Comrie, which ended in 2014.

While staying at Diaz’s house, Duff got into an argument with Koma, which led to her throwing his phone ‘into a really sharp bush.’

‘You guys, it was a bougainvillea and I was so proud of myself because those are sharp,’ she recalled.

‘I was like, “Go fishing off the balcony.”‘

Duff also announced she was ‘pregnant for the last time’ when she appeared on The Drew Barrymore Show in 2024. She confirmed that her husband had undergone a vasectomy, calling it ‘fixed, like a dog.’

Duff collaborated with Koma on her newly released sixth studio album, Luck… or Something, which is currently No. 3 on the Billboard 200 chart dated March 7.

‘He’s the best to work with ever and it was such a healing experience for myself, but also for our relationship. Like, we leveled up during that time. It was really, really cool,’ Duff said.

She also mentioned that the creative process was very meaningful for her, as she felt taken care of by Koma.

Duff is scheduled to kick off her first world tour in nearly 20 years, the 57-date The Lucky Me Tour, starting June 21-22 at iTHINK Financial Amphitheatre in West Palm Beach, FL. The tour will feature opening acts led by women, including English synth-pop act La Roux and Canadian crooners Lauren Spencer Smith and Jade LeMac.

Before the tour, Duff will conclude her sold-out Las Vegas mini-residency at the Voltaire inside The Venetian Resort on May 22-24.
