Major Drug Raids Across Nigeria Highlight NDLEA’s Crackdown

The National Drug Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA) has been actively conducting raids across various parts of Nigeria, targeting drug-related activities and apprehending individuals involved in the trafficking and distribution of illicit substances. These operations have led to multiple arrests and the seizure of significant quantities of narcotics, demonstrating the agency’s ongoing efforts to combat drug abuse.

High-Profile Arrests at Proxy Nightclub

In a major operation, NDLEA arrested Mike Eze Nwalie Nwogu, known as Pretty Mike, a well-known socialite and nightclub owner in Lagos, along with Tuoyo Ideh, a former Big Brother Naija housemate, during a midnight raid at Proxy Nightclub in Victoria Island. The raid took place on October 26, 2025, and resulted in the arrest of over 100 guests. According to the agency, cartons of banned substances, including Loud and laughing gas, were recovered from the venue.

The operation was conducted based on credible intelligence, with NDLEA operatives infiltrating the club around 11 pm on Saturday before carrying out the raid at 3 am on Sunday. The statement released by the agency detailed that the raid followed intelligence about the drug party, and the operatives disrupted the gathering in accordance with standard operating procedures.

Tuoyo Ideh expressed his frustration on Instagram, stating that he was arrested for “doing nothing” and described the situation as unjust. He mentioned that over 150 people were taken to NDLEA headquarters in Ikoyi, where they were treated like criminals. Efforts to reach Pretty Mike for comments were unsuccessful, as calls and messages went unanswered.

Seizure of Cocaine in Lagos

In another significant operation, NDLEA intercepted 70 parcels of cocaine concealed inside cocoa butter body cream containers bound for London at Murtala Muhammed International Airport in Lagos. The cocaine, weighing 3.6 kilograms, was discovered on October 14, 2025, during the examination of cargoes declared as personal effects.

The cargo agent, Lawal Mustapha Olakunle, was immediately arrested, and further investigations over two weeks led to the arrest of two other suspects: Ogunmuyide Taiwo Deborah, a female healthcare worker, and Mutiu Adebayo Adebiyi, the CEO of a travel agency.

Smuggling Attempts Foiled in Other States

NDLEA officers also foiled smuggling attempts in different states. In Enugu, a 35-year-old Lesotho national, Lemena Mark, was arrested at Akanu Ibiam International Airport for attempting to smuggle 103.59 grams of methamphetamine concealed in a Diabeta herbs coffee tea pack to the Philippines.

In Kwara State, 21,950 capsules of tramadol 250mg were intercepted inside a 100-litre water heater. Umar Abubakar, 40, was arrested on October 21 after credible intelligence led to the discovery of the drugs. Similarly, in Taraba State, two suspects, Auwal Musa and Salihu Bala, were arrested with 450,000 pills of tramadol and Exol-5 at the Dan-anacha checkpoint.

Along the Okene/Lokoja highway in Kogi State, officers seized 162.2kg of skunk, a strain of cannabis, from a truck. Another 128kg of the same substance was recovered from a suspect, Abubakar Muhammad, in Keffi, Nasarawa State.

Arrests in Lagos and Other Regions

In Lagos, Oyonumoh Glory Effiong, a mother of two, was arrested on October 17 for distributing high-grade cannabis known as Loud across Lekki, Ikoyi, Victoria Island, Ajah, and VGC. During a raid at her Lekki home, 500 grams of the substance were recovered. In another operation, NDLEA officers raided the home of Ogunyabo Adenigbigbe, recovering 275 litres of skuchies—a cocktail of blackcurrant drink, cannabis, and opioids.

In Abia State, a 75-year-old grandfather, Echendu Onuoka, was arrested with 4.7kg of skunk, while a 60-year-old woman, Aukana John, was caught with 225 grams of the same substance.

Continued Operations and Successes

In Ondo State, 150kg of skunk was recovered during a raid at Lot Camp, Ikun Akoko. In Kaduna State, two suspects, Bashir Mohammad and Samini Ahmed Tijjani, were arrested with 234.5kg of the drug. In the Abuja/Kaduna highway, Isah Usman and Salvation Okoler were arrested with 8,600 pills of tramadol 225mg and rohypnol.

At the Seme border area of Lagos, Jacob Ojugbele was arrested with 55kg of skunk, while Amusa Oluwabukola was caught with 121.3 litres of skuchies.

Armed Suspect Arrested in Zamfara

In Zamfara State, NDLEA operatives arrested a 30-year-old suspect, Abubakar Ibrahim, with an AK-47 rifle and 1,746 rounds of ammunition for AK-47 and GPMG rifles. The suspect was allegedly transporting the weapons from Sokoto to the Bagega forest in Anka Local Government Area.

NDLEA Chairman Commends Officers

NDLEA Chairman, Brig. Gen. Mohamed Buba Marwa (retd.), commended officers across the commands for their commitment and urged them to continue the agency’s offensive against drug traffickers. He highlighted the importance of sustaining the War Against Drug Abuse (WADA) campaign nationwide.

These operations underscore the NDLEA’s relentless efforts to combat drug-related crimes and protect public health across Nigeria. The agency continues to work closely with local and international partners to ensure the safety and security of the nation.
