NDC Ebonyi State Leadership Stands Behind Chairman Amid Alleged Internal Crisis
The State Working Committee (SWC) of the Nigerian Democratic Congress (NDC) in Ebonyi State has publicly supported its party’s State Chairman, Prince Enyinnia Alum Udensi. The committee dismissed allegations of internal conflict within the party and issued a strong warning against what it called “transactional politics,” which it claims could weaken the organization’s growth and unity.
In a statement released on Friday, the party leadership addressed recent media reports and a viral video that allegedly showed individuals passing a vote of no confidence against Udensi and the party’s State Organising Secretary. The SWC described these developments as an orchestrated effort to create a misleading image of instability within the NDC and to undermine its leadership.
According to the statement, those featured in the video did not have the authority to act on behalf of the party and were not representatives of the official structures of the NDC in Ebonyi State. The committee emphasized that the allegations of “hijack, compromise, and manipulation” against Udensi, the State Organising Secretary, and other party stakeholders were baseless and fabricated.
Concerns Over State Secretary’s Role
The SWC also raised concerns about the actions of the State Secretary, Adum Solomon Chinedu. While acknowledging that Chinedu was welcomed into the party and given a key constitutional position, the leadership criticized him for not contributing significantly to the development of the party in the state. The committee claimed that Chinedu had chosen a path of public confrontation instead of working to strengthen the party.
“We are particularly disturbed by his repeated attempts to drag the name of His Excellency, Senator Dr. Sam Egwu, into matters that have absolutely nothing to do with him,” the statement said. It highlighted that Egwu remains a respected political leader whose contributions to democratic governance and the development of Ebonyi State are well documented.
Rejection of the Alleged Vote of No Confidence
Defending Udensi’s leadership, the SWC described him as a stabilizing figure who has shown maturity and fairness in managing the party despite challenges. The committee rejected the alleged vote of no confidence, calling it “null and void” and inconsistent with the party’s constitution and procedures.
“The most disturbing aspect is the attempt to pass a vote of no confidence on our State Chairman, who has demonstrated extreme wisdom and maturity even in the face of provocations and uncertainties,” the statement added. It urged the public to disregard the purported vote of no confidence and to focus on the party’s collective goals.
Calls for Apology and Reconciliation
The SWC called on Chinedu to issue a public apology to the party leadership and to cease efforts to defame party executives and stakeholders. It also warned that personal interests and political bargaining should not overshadow the party’s collective objectives.
“It’s important to note that because he failed with his transactional politicking can’t be a justification for the campaign of hostility, misinformation, and division presently being championed by the State Secretary,” the committee stated. It urged Chinedu to realign with the party’s leadership at both the state and national levels.
Clarification of Election Dates
The party also sought to clarify inaccuracies in Chinedu’s claims, noting that the primary election referenced in his statement took place on May 29, 2026, not May 30 as alleged. This clarification aimed to address any confusion surrounding the event.
Commitment to Unity and Future Elections
The leadership reaffirmed its commitment to reconciliation, party unity, and preparations for future electoral contests. It insisted that it would not be distracted by what it termed unnecessary media battles.
“Our responsibility is to build the party in a virile manner and prepare it for future electoral success come the 2027 general elections and beyond,” the statement concluded.
Final Appeal to Party Members
The SWC urged party members and supporters to remain calm and focused on strengthening the NDC across Ebonyi State. It stressed that the party’s collective interest must always take precedence over individual ambitions.
“The NDC is bigger than any individual ambition, grievance, or personal expectation. No member should place personal interests above the collective interest of the party,” the statement concluded.
