Enugu East Residents Express Unwavering Support for Governor Mbah and President Tinubu

Residents of the Enugu East Senatorial District have shown strong support for Governor Peter Mbah of Enugu State and President Bola Tinubu, vowing to back them in their bid for a second term in the 2027 general election. This endorsement is rooted in the visible transformation and progress that has taken place under their leadership.

The people of Enugu East, particularly the Nkanu clan, have witnessed significant changes over the years. Governor Mbah’s vision to position Enugu State as one of Nigeria’s leading economies, create job opportunities for the youth, modernize infrastructure, ensure community security, and reposition education, healthcare, agriculture, transportation, and technology has moved beyond promises to become tangible realities.

The Ofu Obi Mega Rally, often referred to as the mother of all rallies in recent years, was a testament to this support. The event, held at Okpara Square in Enugu on Saturday, saw traditional rulers present N300 million to Mbah and an Ofo staff, symbolizing authority and endorsement.

Chairman of the Planning Committee, Deacon Okey Ogbodo, and Secretary to the State Government, Prof. Chidiebere Onyia, highlighted the massive turnout as a reflection of gratitude for the state’s transformation under Mbah’s administration and Tinubu’s support. They emphasized that the evidence of effective leadership is evident across all sectors, with the people clearly seeing the difference being made.

Ogbodo remarked, “If it were possible to borrow governors, other states would have been lining up to borrow our governor.” His words reflect the confidence and trust the people have in Mbah’s leadership.

Former Senate President, Senator Ken Nnamani, also expressed full support for Mbah and Tinubu. He urged those involved in certificate forgery or who had been sacked from federal appointments to stay away from the governorship seat. Nnamani emphasized that the Nkanu people do not associate with such actions and that anyone aspiring for office must ensure they have a clean record.

He added, “Anyone who cannot hold a federal office with pride or confidence has nothing to aspire to in seeking a state office. If you come in with anger, you will make a terrible governor.”

Elder statesman and former governor of old Anambra State, Senator Jim Nwobodo, reiterated that Mbah would be supported by all, regardless of political affiliation. He called on any aspiring candidates to rest their ambitions, stating that Enugu West and Nsukka Zone had already voted for two terms.

Minister of Innovation, Science and Technology, Dr. Kingsley Udeh, praised Mbah and Tinubu for redefining governance through bold and inclusive policies that have benefited Ndigbo and Enugu State. He highlighted the positive impact of these policies on the region.

Governor Mbah, in his speech, acknowledged the courage of the people who placed their trust in him in 2023 when he had only a vision to sell. He spoke about the remarkable changes that followed, including the establishment of Smart Green Schools, improved healthcare, better roads, and modern transport terminals.

Mbah also announced the upcoming groundbreaking of a 660MW coal-fired power plant, which he believes will bring permanent light to Enugu. He praised President Tinubu’s reforms under the Renewed Hope Agenda, which he said are repositioning the national economy and strengthening states’ capacity to deliver democratic dividends.

He called for patience and urged the people to protect the gains of the last three years, warning against political opportunists and the dangers of complacency. Mbah emphasized the importance of remaining alert and united during the upcoming election.

Other speakers at the event included Deputy National Chairman (South) of APC, Dr. Ben Nwoye; lawmaker representing Enugu East, Senator Kelvin Chukwu; and various honorees from different constituencies.
